Kathmandu. Minister for Forest and Environment Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri has said that all three levels of government should be responsible for environment conservation by reducing the climate change impacts.
At a programme organized by Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists (NEFEJ) on Sunday, Minister Shahi Thakuri said that such interventions should be implemented effectively at the grassroots in a responsible manner.
‘The environment sector is immense. There is no sufficient human resource to work. The Ministry should be made resourceful and the activities on the environment should be taken to the local levels,’ Minister Shahi Thakuri added.
Saying that Nepal has suffered as the developed countries were the key emitters, Minister Shahi Thakuri stated that Nepal was preparing to claim compensation for the damages caused by climate change impacts.
He also expressed concerns to the ongoing snowmelt in Nepal’s mountains due to the pollution caused by other countries and said that Nepal would seek compensation for that too.
